Buy Professional Carpet Cleaning Machines With The Right Features

In business, there is no compromise on quality of service and customer satisfaction. To maintain good quality and higher level of customer satisfaction, you need to make sure that you have the right equipment for carpet cleaning. Professional carpet cleaning machines are easily available on retail shops. Also, these machines are available at discounted prices and with additional features. When you are searching for carpet cleaning machines specifically for your business (old or new), you must keep an eye on few features that make some machines better than others. These are general features and can be found in all the machines that are available in the market.

First of all, you need to explore your options and narrow down your search to few manufacturers, because while your business is in running condition, you cannot keep experimenting with different companies. You need to find that one particular brand you can stick to for a long time. While cleaning carpets for your customers, keep a track of features that come in handy most of the times and that are most advantageous. It will help you buy professional carpet cleaning machines in future, as will easily make sure that these features are available in the unit you are purchasing.

First thing you should consider while looking for professional carpet cleaning machines is the power of the motor. The more powerful the motor, the better your cleaning will be. Remember that you will be cleaning thousands of carpets and sometimes you might have to clean the ones that look like a clay court. For dealing with carpets that are way dirtier than normal ones you handle, you will need very thorough cleaning, powerful machine and powerful extraction. At the same time, you need to make sure that you don't take too much time in cleaning such carpets and for that, you need powerful motor.

The length of your hose pipe is another important factor and you might not know, but it can be really cost effective when it comes to businesses. With small hose size, you will need to deploy more workers on the same carpet to work on different areas simultaneously. On the other hand, with a big hose size, only one worker would be enough to cover a large carpet area. Some of the professional carpet cleaning machines have even 15 feet long hose pipes and considering them in your options would be great. Along with the size of hose, get a long cord with your carpet cleaning machine as well.

Finally, keep a close eye on the tank size when you are exploring professional carpet cleaning machines. As mentioned above, you need to do your jobs quicker, so you can pick up more projects in a day and increase the revenue for your business. If the tank size of your machine is smaller, your workers will require refilling them again and again. This can consume a lot of time. At times, it can be annoying for your customers as well. So, consider machines with larger tank size. Finally, stay loyal to your business and never make the mistake of leaving a carpet wet.

How to Clean Grout - Without Wanting to Tear Out the Tiling

Have you ever felt so frustrated while trying unsuccessfully to clean the grout between your tiles, that you just want to tear out the tiling and replace everything? Well, don't be dismayed. You are not alone. Grout cleaning can be really difficult, and may be a big challenge if you are not familiar with the process. Grout enhances the appearance of your tiles with its wide array of complimentary colors, but it is composed of mostly porous material and is a good absorbent for all the detritus like grease, dirt, soap scum, carbonate scaling, cooking oil, and sediments that gets smeared over it with time. That is why it is necessary to coat all grout with a sealant after installation. The sealant will wear off after a couple of years though, and sometimes the grout is not sealed at all. So what is the easiest way to clean that grout? The following must be taken into consideration:

The kind of tiling. Is it comprised of porous material like marble, granite or stone? The kind of deposit on the grout. Acidic or alkaline? The overall physical condition of the grout. Is it gouged in some areas? What equipment is available to do the cleaning? What chemicals may be used to remove the specific type of deposits? What about the sealing?

There are basically two types of tiles - synthetic or man-made tiles like ceramic and natural or organic tiling like granite, slate, etc. Synthetic tiles are impervious to almost all chemicals or cleaning agents that may be used, but natural tiles are porous and will be severely damaged or etched by acidic chemicals.

Generally speaking, kitchen and hallway tile and grout are more prone to be covered with alkaline deposits, and are best cleaned with alkaline (high pH) tile and grout cleaning solutions, while tile and grout in bathrooms usually have deposits which require low pH (acidic) solvents for removal.

Sometimes grout in some areas may be so badly gouged that it may require repair before or after further treatment.

Small areas of tiling and grout may be cleaned with a small, non-metallic brush, but for larger areas, optimal equipment is a turbo tool powered by a truck mounted machine generating pressures of up to 1000 psi, vacuum of up to 14 inches mercury, and temperatures of up to 250 degrees F. In each case, the cleaning solution is applied liberally over the tile and grout, left to react for at least 15 minutes, and then extracted and rinsed off the tile and grout. High temperatures and agitation with a machine or grout brush will assist the cleaning process.

Finally after you have the tile and grout looking sparkling clean again, be sure to insist on sealing it with an appropriate water-based or solvent-based sealant, to protect the grout from re-soiling and making it easy for you to clean, without wanting to tear out the tiling.

A good sealant will remain on the grout for about two professional cleanings. So clean your tile and grout professionally at least once a year to avoid this kind of frustration.

While you might be tempted to do all of this yourself, in the long run, unless you are dealing with a relatively small area, the easiest and most cost-effective thing to do, is to call in a professional.

What's Living In Your Rug?

The best kind of rug owner makes sure that his or her rug is cleaned and maintained. This usually includes taking the rug in to be cleaned by professionals, but some rug owners choose to clean their rugs at home by themselves.

It's suggested that rug owners clean their rugs themselves through vacuuming periodically to keep it in good nick.

However, these repetitive basic cleans, by means of vacuum or maybe a gentle spot treatment chemical, without a professional clean every 6-12 months can leave some pretty nasty things trapped in your rug.

What's living in your rug, you ask.

If you use your home vacuum to clean your rug, you can maintain you it and eliminate sometimes up to 80 to 85% of dirt and dry soil. This is a great improvement and will make it cleaner for longer.

However, unfortunately the remaining percentage of dry soil, dust and dirt is the nastiest stuff because it is heavier or too small and will accumulate over time. And using your vacuum over and over will never pull these out from the deepest fibres of your rug.

Of course, there are those who try to clean their rug themselves by using a pressure hose to blast the rug which will remove a lot of dirt along with most of the rug as well. Please, Please never use this method to clean your rug, it will damage it beyond repair.

Professionals now use of state of the art machines to remove soiling from your rug. You can bet that anyone in the business for long uses more gentle methods to ensure that the rug comes back.

So while vacuuming your rug might make it look a little better in the short term, it may be full of heavy sediments slowly killing it. What's more disturbing is that what in your rug might be slowly killing you!

You'll never quite know exactly what's living in your rug. Fibres in rugs are capable of holding so many different bacteria and mould spores that become trapped.

I'm not saying all this to scare you either; I really just want everyone to know about one of the best things that they can do for the cleanliness in their home. After all remember that the flip side is that if you didn't have a rug then you would be breathing all of the dirt and bacteria.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars has gone into the research of machinery and technology that will work together to remove these living and damaging things from your rug or carpet. Why wouldn't you take advantage of this; it's really the best way to completely clean any carpet.

A clean rug is beneficial to you and everyone who lives in proximity of that rug. It removes dust and dirt from any living space like an air filter for your home.

Maintaining a clean rug is very important so vacuum often. But to get rid of what's living in your rug is to take it to the professionals and get it cleaned regularly.

Wooden Bowl Care

Wooden bowls intended for use around the home are tough and long lasting. Bowls of ceramic or glass remain unchanged right up to the day when they chip or smash. Wood is unlikely to break in normal use, but does feel the effect of time on its surface. Minor damage will initially lessen the bowl's appeal, but the wear and tear of everyday use over time creates a patina that can enhance the item. Each mark is part of its history.

The owner of a new bowl has a decision to make. Some people like the sparkle of a freshly made piece, while others prefer the appearance of a timeworn and cherished antique. The way you care for the bowl depends on this preference. Either protect the bowl from anything that will damage it, or just put the bowl to use and let it develop the patina that will come from constant handling.

The polished surface of a wooden bowl can be dulled by sunlight, moisture and abrasion. So to keep the shine, minimise exposure to these. But if damage does occur, the surface can be refreshed or even re-finished if necessary. If the surface is still in reasonably good condition, a coat of wax polish or oil is enough to revive it.

To restore the original appearance of a damaged bowl, start by cleaning it using mild detergent and water, scrubbing if necessary to remove any dirt, wax or oil residues. Don't soak the bowl for any length of time. Dry it thoroughly.

It is then ready for any repairs that might be needed. To remove scratches or roughness, use fine grit 'wet or dry' abrasive paper, rubbing along the grain to blend in the damaged area. The paper can be used dry, but if it clogs it can be lubricated with a little water. Clean off any residue and dry the surface again.

Small dents in the wood can be sanded away. Larger ones can be steamed out. Moisten the dent with water and apply local heat with an electric iron, taking care not to scorch. The moisture turns to steam and the bruised fibres return to their original shape. Some fine sanding may be needed afterwards to blend in the damaged area. If the fresh wood exposed while sanding has a different colour to the rest, it will soon blend in again.

When the bowl has a smooth, clean and dry surface, it is ready for refinishing. Most are finished either with a drying oil, such as Danish oil or walnut oil, or a non-drying oil such as mineral oil. Non-drying oils leave a matte finish that attracts dust but is easily washed and re-oiled. Drying oils penetrate and harden, leaving a clean, dry surface that does not hold dust and needs less maintenance. Either can be used whatever the original finish, but remove any non-drying oil from the surface before applying drying oil.

If using a drying oil, wipe on a coat and wipe off any surplus after a few minutes. Let the bowl dry for a few hours, then repeat. When the surface does not absorb any more, remove any roughness with a clean, dry kitchen scouring pad or very fine steel wool and apply one more coat. After a few days to dry properly, wax can then be applied to give a softer feel.

Non-drying oil is easy to apply. Just wipe it on and then wipe off any surplus. Repeat any time the surface looks dry. Soft wax can be applied over the oil.

Household Remedies for Removing Black Mold

People often think that black mold only develops in dirty and unhygienic environments, but this is not the case. Black mold can and has been found throughout thousands of households throughout the US - no place is immune from this fungus.

Black mold grows in environments where there is little or no sunlight, no circulating air, and plenty of excess moisture. Places like this can often be found in cupboards, under sinks, in dry walls or around wood work, and cracked or leaking pipes are often the culprits of the excess moisture. Once black mold has found a place like this to grow, it will, and it will continue to spread throughout your home until you get rid of it once and for good.

It is particularly important to act quickly when removing black mold, because it's poisonous; and although it doesn't pose any real serious threat to individuals with a healthy, strong immune system, it can be very serious, and even life-threatening to people with weak immune systems. For example, people who suffer with HIV, people with transplants, or people who need to use immune-suppressant drugs and of course, young children and the elderly are highly at risk too. Due to the risks involved, it's essential to remove the mold as soon possible after detection.

It is always best to consult a professional mold remediation service to deal with removing black mold from around your home, because it is a highly toxic fungus. But, if you are confident, and you take due care and caution during the mold removal process, you can successfully do the job yourself at home without having to spend money on hiring a mold removal professional.

If you do want to try removing the black mold yourself, then you can do it with a few items that are often found in most households. One of the best ways to clean black mold from your home is to use chlorine bleach - something that most people will have under the kitchen sink (hopefully there is no mold under there too). To perform the removal with chlorine bleach, follow these simple steps.

Firstly you need to ensure you have a protective mask to stop you inhaling any spores that may rise during the removal, and a pair of protective gloves to protect your hands from the chemical cleaner that you will be using. Secondly, you need to dampen the mold on the affected area, this will prevent many of the spores from rising up as you scrub the area clean (if the mold is dry when you start scrubbing, it flakes away much like dust and disperses into the air, by making it damp before you start, you eliminate this extra dispersion of the spores), then use soap and a hard brush to scrub the area clear of black mold. Once the entire mold growth is removed, wash the area clean with water, and then finally give it a thorough clean and disinfect the area with your chlorine bleach solution.

Once cleaned, make sure you fully dry the area and then leave the room to air out for a few hours. If all went well, removing the black mold was a success and you now have a mold free household once again.

Home Mold Inspection: Providing Safe Air Quality For Everyone

If you believe you may have mold growth in your home or workplace, you can hire a professional mold inspection company to come out for an inspection of the premises. You can get a thorough home mold inspection by the certified inspectors to ensure your environment is safe for your family and co-workers. The purpose of this type of inspection is to inform you whether there is toxic mold growth in your inside environment. The inspectors are trained to detect dangerous mold growth and will make recommendations on the best way to clean it up.

Most people are not aware that they are exposed to various types of different species of molds each day, and although many of the molds are harmless, there is a chance that some might not be. Toxic mold growth in your work or home environment has a serious effect on your health and the health of those around you. Through a personalized mold inspection by professional inspectors, you get the service you need to accommodate your needs.

A mold inspector can make the much-needed recommendations to a home or business owner about the best route for mold removal. This can help the home or business owner determine what is necessary to prevent the mold from returning. A professional inspection company will also offer advice on effective ways to reduce the most common cause of mold growth, which is indoor humidity.

If your mold inspector determines there is mold growth present, or if you see or smell mold, you should take the necessary steps to get rid of the problem. Your best option is to hire a professional mold inspection company to get rid of your mold problem. Although minimal amounts of mold can be removed with substances like bleach when you do it on your own, you often only get rid of the visible mold. It is also important to note that individuals with asthma or any other types of respiratory condition should not try to get rid of the mold by themselves or be present while mold removal is in process. Through a professional inspection, they will find the source of the moisture in your inside environment, fix it, and then clean it up.

If you are in need of a professional mold inspection services to determine if you have dangerous mold growth in your inside environment, call on a professional mold inspectors that have a reputation for delivering great service. Through this service, you can get rid of both visible and non-visible mold growth and make your inside environment safe for everyone.

Getting Rid of Nail Polish Stains on Your Carpet

Nail polish can really enhance a woman's fingers and toes. It can be a great accent to a beautiful dress or simply something that you can have fun with and customize according to your mood. But while it can have a very good impact on your appearance, it can also be a cause for concern if you accidentally spill some of that nail polish on your carpet.

Nail polish spills are very hard to clean up. They can really alter the carpet's appearance which is why knowing how to properly clean it up is vital. If you are dealing with this problem at home then you are in luck. Below is an effective guide which I have used in cleaning up the polish stains on the carpet. Just follow it so that you won't have to worry about getting your carpet clean and back to normal anymore.

1. Try to remove as much of the polish spilled on the carpet by scooping it using a spoon or a dull knife. If you are just dealing with minor spills though you can simple get a clean paper towel and blot the affected area. It is important that you do not rub the spill as you can only make it worse.

2. Once you have removed the excess liquid, it's now time for you to add a few drops of nail polish remover onto the stain that is left behind on the carpet. Before you do this you must make sure that the polish remover is safe to use on your carpet. To do this, simply add a drop or two on an inconspicuous part of the carpet to see if it does any damage. If there is any discoloration or damage then try using a different carpet cleaning solution, if it does nothing then you are safe to use it.

3. After applying a few drops of the polish remover, blot the area again using a paper towel. By doing this you will be able to remove a little of the stain but you will need to proceed to the next step to completely get it out.

4. Next, mix a teaspoon of non-bleach laundry detergent with ¾ liters of water. Apply this onto the stained area and then blot it repeatedly using a clean white cloth. After a while you will see that the stain is transferring from the carpet and onto the cloth. Do this until the nail polish stain is completely removed.

5. Rinse the area with clean water and dry it up using clean rags. This is so that no residue will get left behind on the carpet.

Dust Matters

Dust is everywhere, literally. In our homes, on the roads, in the market places, the offices, the parks and the parking lots: you name it and you will find it. Nothing is free from dust. Everything is laden with it - the computer, the kitchen ware and home appliances, the furniture and the wall hangings, the decorative pieces and the book shelves. Dust is not a monopoly of the East; it has its niche in the West too, though not as rampant and obvious. Indeed, dust is not limited to our home planet, but is prevalent in our planetary neighbors, comets, meteorites, stellar cousins from outer space and in inter-galactic spaces too as cosmic dust - the starry equivalent of our earthy material. After air, it is the most ubiquitous composite matter on earth, sometimes hardly distinguishable from it.

Dust in residential areas is constantly whipped up by wind and human activity. It rises and settles all the time and while air-borne travels from house to house. It is made up of skin flakes, fabric fibers, flour and food dust from mixers and grinders. It comes from cleaning, sweeping, cooking and, of course, dusting. All this is home-made; there is also dust coming in from the outside such as dust from the street raised by flowing traffic, the blowing winds carrying industrial pollutants, the things purchased from the shops and of course people walking in. Once inside the house, it finds several things to settle on: carpets, furniture, shelves, window sills and the walls and ceilings. Fluffs of dust gather into dust bunnies in little-used corners, under the beds, embedded in seat cushions and pillows, on top of shelves and cupboards and certainly in the attic space.

Coping with dust is not a simple task since we are chasing a moving target. Dusting whips it up and spreads it, exposing ourselves and other things around the place for it to settle down again. Vacuuming is a limited, effort-driven, energy-sapping activity that leaves us drained, even while leaving the unreachable places as dust repositories. Closing the doors and windows and shutting yourself in is not an option either, since it cuts off air flow and the dust that is already in is sure to get to you sooner than you think. One cannot leave them open either, since with the air flow more dust comes in and the bunnies start to appear more frequently and in copious quantities. Floor mopping, carpet cleaning, wiping furniture and keeping kitchen waste from flying are some of the measures we take, in addition to the afore-mentioned activities, but dusting remains a losing battle. Most of our energy is spent in keeping the house dust-free, which is of course an ideal state. It is a myth to expect a place to be completely free from dust, since dust gathers faster than you can clean it, always. And professional dust busting sucks you dry; it cuts your purse strings and leaves you to cope with it again after it is done. With dust, nothing is over.

Nothing is more shocking to watch than sunlight shimmering through a crack in the door or a window pane: it is a revelation to know that the tiny insect-like particles dancing in its path are the dust that we are breathing right now. You blow at them and watch them with fascination as they scatter and re-group again to continue their dreadful dance. Obviously, they are all over the place. What are these particles? Is there anything in the world that is more vulnerable and tenacious at the same time than these little things that have made our life miserable? We have gained control over nature, mastered the laws of science, invented ways to probe the depths of oceans and outer space, invaded the far corners of the earth and extended our scale of study from the very minute to the mammoth objects in the universe; yet, we have failed to contain this menace from these tiny particles that have a tyrannical hold over us. There is no conquering them; there is no getting rid of them; there is indeed no living without them, no matter what havoc they unleash on us.

Dust particles are waste matter. As we chuck our fluid waste into the sea, so we let loose our solid waste matter into the air. Nothing ever goes away for good; no matter where we throw it, it comes back to us. Ash, burnt tire rubber, dandruff, kitchen waste, decaying matter (leaves and flowers), soiled shoes, broken cobwebs, abrasions from skin (human and animal), rock (erosion) and metals (rust), industrial waste as air-borne pollutants, human and animal hair, textile and paper fibers, minerals from the soil and a host of other materials that are typical to a particular surroundings. So we see that dust is composed of organic matter as much as chemicals and other natural stuff that has been thrown away as waste.

This floating waste dump is a mobile breeding ground for germs and a hanger for harmful chemicals which pose a perpetual health risk to us. Not only the industrial environs, but even household dust contains hazardous chemicals, as reported by some pollution and health study groups around the world. No wonder, then, illnesses like asthma, allergic reactions, hay fever and endemic flues dog our lives in no small measure. Dust, the all-pervading ever-present dust, is not only teeming with life, but also with life-threatening stuff.

There are two ways to deal with this fluffy material universe we live in:

• Go at it with a missionary zeal, eradicate it from your life by preparing a strategy to minimize, if not eliminate, it from your life and follow it up scrupulously.

• Take it easy. Consider it chic to have dust around. Stop dusting your bookshelves. Let it accumulate on your possessions - it adds a protective coat of gray matter that shields the surface underneath from scratches. As a newspaper columnist put it rather flippantly - "No more need to take up the broom, brush, duster or vacuum cleaner to fight a losing battle. Just welcome it as your boon companion and relax!"

Summer Carpet Cleaning Tips

Summertime is here which means the house will be opened up to more foot traffic. This will contribute to the amount of dirt and grime getting tracked into the house from outside that will settle into the carpets. Also, increased foot traffic will cause more wear on a carpet regardless of the amount of dirt that is tracked inside. However, there are some simple tips to follow to try to minimize the damage to your carpets throughout the summer months.

The most basic tip to follow to keep carpets clean is removing shoes before walking into the house. Shoes are the most common source for tracked in dirt and mud and they can also wear down a carpet the way excessive foot traffic can wear down patches of grass. Removing shoes before coming inside every time can get obnoxious, but it will help keep carpets clean and extend their lifespan. With all the in and out traffic that a home experiences in the summer, enforcing a "no shoes" household can be rather difficult. Fortunately there are other ways to protect a carpet without having to strictly enforce a "no shoes" rule.

Putting down mats and runners over high traffic areas is another way to protect your carpets. Putting doormats at every entrance of the house helps protect a carpet by encouraging guests to remove their shoes. The presence of a doormat not only acts as a reminder to take your shoes off, but also allows guests to at least wipe them on the mat before entering the house. Runners can act as carpet protectors as well. They can be placed right over the carpet to protect it from the effects of moisture and high foot traffic by providing a buffer between feet and the carpet. Putting runners over carpets in food areas is also a good idea to help protect the carpet from food stains.

While protecting the carpet can help avoid some dirt and stains, enough of the carpet will still be exposed to collect dirt and debris. If the dirt is not removed, it can quickly wear a carpet down and get mashed into the fibers. Vacuuming regularly is the best way to remove dirt and dust before it gets mashed deeper into the fibers where it is more difficult to be cleaned. Another helpful vacuuming tip is to spread some baking soda over the carpet before vacuuming. Baking soda absorbs the odors from the carpet and can easily be vacuumed. It is easy to overlook the importance of vacuuming but vacuuming once a week can help keep carpets cleaner and in turn, extend the life of the carpet.

Following these simple tips can help maintain the life of your carpet through the busy summer season. While performing these simple actions can help keep carpets clean, it is also a good idea to have them cleaned annually by a carpet cleaning company to ensure the cleanliness and longevity of the carpet. Do not let the condition of your carpet take away from the beauty of your home's interior.

Cleaning: Why You Should Consider Hiring a Cleaning Company for Your Home

Families are extremely busy these days. It's not uncommon now in a two-parent household to have both parents working full-time, and for those couples who have children in school and involved in other activities, time is a very precious commodity. In all of the commotion of work, the various errands that need to be run and the taxing around of family members to different places, household chores can get lost in the shuffle, which can add even more stress to an already-stressful situation. This is just one reason many families turn to a professional cleaning company to take care of keeping their home tidy.

A cleaning company, also called a maid service, provides one or more trained cleaning specialists who come in either on a one-time basis or in regularly-scheduled intervals to take care of your household cleaning needs. Furniture is dusted, windows are wiped, floors are vacuumed, and other steps are taken to get your home looking as it should. All of this while you're free to go about your business and knock a few tasks off of your to-do list.

If you're a self-employed freelancer, hiring a cleaning service can also save you money. The time you'd otherwise feel compelled to clean up your home can instead be spent completing more work and bringing in more money. A maid can handle the cleaning work you'd otherwise have to handle yourself.

Health is another reason families tend to hire cleaning services. After all, house cleaning can be a very dirty task to tackle, and the bacteria and other germs that could be spread around the home can pass on colds and other illnesses. Not only that, but unless you're a pro at cleaning your own home like the specialists most cleaning services hire, you're bound to miss some very important areas.

Whether you're a member of the busy family, someone who works from home, or simply someone who is concerned with keeping their home as clean and free of germs as possible, a cleaning service is a great step to take in order to take back some of your own time, save some money, and stay more healthy. Be sure to keep your eye open for cleaners who are both insured and bonded, and ask around for reviews from friends and family members who have hired cleaning services in the past. Hiring a maid service can be a very helpful experience for those who find the right company.

Tips For Preventing Mold Growth In Your Home

While mold do not generally pose a considerable health risk when you are outdoors, the story is different when you are indoors. This is due to the fact that excessive moisture can accumulate indoors, and molds grow rapidly in the presence of moisture. It is therefore necessary to be extra careful regarding the conditions that can encourage mold growth inside your home. If in any case you suspect that mold is beginning to invade your home, you can do the following preliminary actions to help in exterminating its presence:

1. Determine and Eliminate All Source of Moisture

Molds can only grow in the presence of moisture, so the most important factor to consider in the fight against its growth is the source of moisture inside your home. Leaky pipes, humidity, and condensation; all of these contributes to moisture inside your home. So before it gets out of control, immediately fix any water problem or leak. Another way is to prevent humidity by venting bathrooms and dryers outside. The use of exhaust fans while cooking, dishwashing and cleaning can also help to reduce the level of humidity. Increasing ventilation, as well as using air-conditioning and de-humidifying systems also helps get rid of too much humidity. You can also prevent condensation by using insulation for windows, pipes, exterior walls, roof, and floors.

2. Immediately Clean Up Mold from the Affected Area

You can control mold growth while it has not yet reached a level that can adversely affect the health of your family. But before doing the clean up, make sure to protect yourself with the following: a N-95 respirator, which prevents you from inhaling airborne mold; gloves, which prevents the risk of touching molds with your bare hands; goggles without ventilation holes, which protects your eyes from getting infested with molds. When you are done protecting yourself and are ready for the clean-up, you can start by scrubbing mold off hard surfaces with soap and water. Remember to completely dry the area after cleaning it up. Areas that are always damp, such as the bathroom, will be difficult to make completely free from molds. Cleaning it up more often, increasing ventilation and opening a window will help to at least minimize the presence of molds.

The procedures above can only help to deal with a minimal amount of molds There are instances where more advanced technique will be needed to completely eliminate the problem of mold growth.

In rural areas, you can find these septic tanks in almost every house. Septic tank is very essential in such locations to collect the sewage waste from house. Most of them install a tank with great care, but lack in maintenance. Effective maintenance of septic tank avoids many issue and future and cut downs the cost of septic services like cleaning and pumping.

Every contractor or a well-trained professional will suggest the first most common thing is to "Conserve Water".

Increase in the level of waste water will cause frequent cleaning and pumping activities of a container. So, reduce the usage of water, this can help in cutting down the cost. Avoid dumping heavy solid waste materials into the container. These solid wastes will cause severe damage to the septic system. They cause blockages or clogging in the drainfield that leads to repair or replacement.

Contacting a right service provider can assist in performing the job successfully. In general, pumping a tank cost around $75 to $200. Pumping out larger containers will cost around $200 to$350 or more. While renting a cleaning and pumping service provider, you must be very cautious. Rent a professional service provider and make sure that you ask all your doubts on cleaning and pumping activities. Don't forget to ask about the discounts and offers in their company. Knowing about the offers can save you handsome amount of money. There are some companies that charge less than the cost provided above. But make sure you are electing a nice company for an effective service to your tank. The above specified costs are not constant in every company. They may vary according to the vendor and location.

Gum Removal - How to Get Gum Out of the Carpet

Gum removal is quite easy to do, but there are still a multitude of questions from people who want to know how to get gum out of the carpet. Some people even get so dispirited by the sight of ugly gum blobs they have difficulty removing, that they actually replace the carpet in frustration.

You will hardly ever have to do that. Here is the answer.

Depending on what the situation may be, you will need to have the following materials available:

Some iceA plastic zipper bagA hammer or similar tool you can use to pound or beat on the gum when it gets hardA spatula or scraperCanned refrigerant or liquid compressed air usually used to dust off computer keyboards.Dish washing liquidCitrus solvent or citrus gelVacuum cleaner or carpet steamer

Now here are the steps to follow:

First, try to get the gum hard and brittle by freezing it. Put some ice in a zipper bag. Close the bag, place it over the gum and leave it there for 10 to 15 minutes. Repeat if necessary, until the gum is brittle. Use the hammer or other heavy object to beat on it and break it into little pieces. Scrape off the fragments with the spatula or scraper and use the vacuum cleaner or carpet steamer to remove them from the carpet.

You may also try to freeze the gum by using the compressed air or canned refrigerant. Hold the can upside down, close to the gum, and squirt the gas unto it. When it gets hard, follow the procedure above.

If this doesn't get rid of all the gum, try using a citrus based solvent or gel, which you can get at any cleaning supply store. Spray the solvent unto the gum or cover it with the gel and leave it for 10-15 minutes. This will cause it to decompose, lose its stickiness and get hard so that you can scrape it off the carpet fibers.

Sometimes a stain is left on the carpet after the gum is removed. That is because gum is made from synthetic latex, but usually has various other additives like sweeteners, softeners, flavorings and colorants to modify its properties. These stains are usually easy to remove also.

First try a dilute solution of dish washing liquid - about half ounce per gallon. Apply this solution to the stained area and leave it to react for about 10 minutes. Blot with a clean white towel until all the color is gone. Blot - don't rub, because you may just cause the stain to spread to surrounding areas.

If this doesn't remove all the stain, try the same procedure, using the citrus solvent or gel.

Finally, vacuum and groom the carpet when it is dry.

Be sure to always wear gloves when handling cleaning chemicals.

Also, do not scrape the carpet too hard or you may damage the fibers.

Have fun!

But with recent events and many people pulling away from spending, steam cleaning has become a new way to transform your used furniture and bring out a fresh look. There are many companies out there that guarantee their product works, but your best bet is to contact a professional who will do it right the first time rather than opt for trial and error.

Most steam cleaning companies offer an initial consultation for free. They will evaluate your carpets and furniture, recommend treatments and provide you with an estimate. Should you accept their estimate, then you will go ahead and schedule an appointment for the cleaning.

The process can take anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour depending upon how many rooms or pieces of furniture that you have cleaned. After the floors and upholstery are cleaned, you will have to wait for them to dry before you can use them. Drying takes the most time and times may vary depending on the humidity level, but can take anywhere from three to six hours.

Do not be put off by the cost of steam cleaning, it can be expensive depending upon the amount of work that you need done. It is definitely an investment, however, that you have to make in order to prolong the life of your floors and furniture. You can try steam cleaning yourself, but without the proper knowledge on how to effectively clean your goods, you are likely to damage them rather than improve their condition. Furthermore, the machines you can rent or buy are not comparable to the commercial equipment that professional cleaning companies use.

When it comes to maintaining your floors and your furniture, it is always best to leave it in the hands of the professionals. Steam cleaning companies will ensure that you get the best results without the loss or damage that you may cause by doing it yourself.

The Frustration of Carpet Filtration

Have you noticed in your home that blackish film around the edges of your carpet? Typically it is found just beneath the base board and protrudes about one inch from the wall. It is not only an eye soar but also an embarrassment. It simply makes us look like bad housekeepers. So, what causes it? Well, it really doesn't matter what causes it the more important question is what can be done about it. But for those "I have to know" people reading this, filtration, as it is called, is caused by one of two things.

One possible cause is the way air flows through the home via the heating and air system. As the house "breathes" dust and dirt is carried invisibly through the air and when the air conditioning system turns off the dirt and dust simply floats down to the floor. Over time dirt and dust becomes noticeable against the walls. This makes sense because vacuums typically do not reach against walls. So, dirt and dust that is deposited in open areas is vacuumed away with regular vacuuming. The second cause of filtration is simple air physics. We all know that heat rises. So, when a furnace is on the dusty dirt warms and floats upward. Then, when the system shuts off the dirt floats to cooler areas (usually against the walls). Over time it simply gets more and more embedded.

The real question is "what can be done about it?" Well, the answer depends on how much filtration exists and how long it has been there. The first step is to simply vacuum with an edging tool attached to a typical household vacuum cleaner. This will likely not do too much. The most you can hope for is a lighter look and affect. The next step is to spritz warm water onto the area (no soap!), agitate with a stiff brush (sweeping the brush in one direction typically is best because this will push the dust away from the wall rather than scrub it deeper within the carpet), and extract the wet dirt with a wet vacuum hose attachment on a wet vac. Should this not work then it is time to call a professional carpet cleaning service. Keep in mind though that not even a professional cleaning service can guarantee removal of filtration. They are, however, equipped with the necessary tools and solvents to do the best job possible.

Tips to Window Cleaning (Part 2)

The excellent results achieved by professional window cleaners comes as a result of many hours of intensive work where one learns the tricks of the trade, whether it be via a schooled professional or more commonly trial and error. I previously listed the equipment commonly used by professionals when cleaning windows and will now explain the technique I use to employ this equipment. Follow this guide and you too can have windows that glisten with that much wanted professional touch.

The first step is to fill the bucket with water and add your detergent; my personal choice is Morning Fresh, this will assist in lubricating your squeegee to glide over the surface of the glass. Next add methylated spirits to your water, I do this so as to aid evaporation which helps prevent streaks.

We'll assume the windows we are to clean are free of debris; we'll look at tips on cleaning windows after a builders clean in a later article. First I would apply the detergent to the glass using my washer. In the event the glass hasn't been cleaned for quite some time and is covered in grime the doodle bug with its scouring pad will be useful in scrubbing the window. Ensure the pad and the glass are free of any debris that may scratch the window pane. You will eventually develop a feel of the doodle bug and notice that it glides so much easier as it frees the window of its grime.

With the glass now covered in your cleaning solution we take a hold of our squeegee and look to the top of the window. Apply the rubber corner of the squeegee along the edge of the glass or you could use a cloth, make sure the cloth is free of lint, like a microfibre. The purpose of wiping the top edge is to prevent solution running down your glass when you squeegee the solution off the glass.

For the novice let's begin with the easiest technique. Place the squeegee horizontally at the top left of the window. Now run the squeegee straight down the window in a vertical direction. Keep constant pressure on the window all the way down to the bottom, with practice you will develop a feel as to how much pressure on the squeegee you will require, too little or too much will leave streaks. Wipe your rubber with a cloth then return to the top and repeat this action to the right side of the area just cleaned, have the squeegee overlap the cleaned area by about 3 cm, repeat this until you reach the right side of the window.

The window is now clean so let's dry the side and top edges with a dry cloth, using your finger to run along the edges. At the bottom of the window you will need to mop up the excess water on the sill then use your dry cloth to dry the bottom edge.

Step back and inspect your work. Look from different directions to try to detect any streaks or marks left on the pane. Marks can appear from different angles. Should you detect any streaks use your dry lint free cloth. If there are too many streaks then it's easier to start the process again by applying the solution to the window. For stubborn marks I tend to use grade 0000 steel wool, designed for polishing glass. Of course the window isn't truly cleaned until both sides are done.

A couple of warnings, on hot days your solution can evaporate quickly, this can cause friction with your squeegee on the glass resulting in streaks. Also, your worst enemy is the sun. A window that looks perfectly clean in the morning may show horrible streaks once the sun shines through so the key is to develop a keen eye for spotting those marks on your window.

For the next technique, again for novices, run your dry cloth down the left edge of the pane. Now hold the squeegee vertically and place it along the left edge of the window at the top. Run the squeegee straight across the window in a horizontal direction. Keep constant pressure on the window all the way across to the right side of the window. Wipe your rubber with a cloth then return to the left and repeat this action to the bottom of the area just cleaned, have the squeegee overlap the cleaned area by about 3 cm, repeat this until you reach the bottom of the window.

The technique most professionals use is to glide the squeegee across the window in one fluid motion, without lifting the rubber blade, to prevent stopping and starting. This speeds up the process. I start at the bottom left side of the window, move upwards to the top of the window, with the squeegee slopped towards the centre of the glass to allow for run off. Then without lifting the blade, move across the top then down the right side, all the way pushing the detergent to the centre of the glass. Again, without lifting the blade, move to the top of the window, overlapping the cleaned area by a few centimetres and always pushing the solution to the centre. Now snake your squeegee down the glass to the bottom. Mop up the sill, dry the edges, step back and inspect. Correct any blemishes then you're done.

So there you have it, gleaming clean windows, just like the professionals.
