Find A Reliable Maid Service Business

Maid service is something that homeowners, renters and business owners utilize. This service is designed to offer a way for people to have clean homes or offices, without doing the work themselves. Because of people's busy schedules, it can be hard to find time to clean. Many people do not feel like doing these tasks when they get home in the evenings. This is why companies that offer cleaning services are so important and valuable.

When you decide to hire a maid service, there are several things that you should keep in mind. For one thing, you will want a company that is professional and experienced. This is very important. A professional company will offer great results, and will handle things in a professional manner. The next thing is finding a company that is licensed and insured. If something was to happen in your home while the maid service was there, you would want the peace of mind knowing that the company is insured. This is important in the event of a theft of an item out of your home, or if the worker became injured during some type of cleaning activity.

Another important aspect of hiring a professional company is trust. When you hire a company like this, you are letting a complete stranger into your home. In most cases, you will not even be home when the services take place. It is important to hire a company that pre-screens all of its workers. This includes performing background checks on the workers and drug tests on each one. This will assure you that the worker that shows up to clean your home is trustworthy and conscientious. This is one of the most important things that homeowners look for.

Hiring a maid service is a great choice. When the worker shows up, she will clean everything that you specify. If there are certain things you do not want her to clean, she will simply skip over them. For example, some people do not want someone else cleaning their master bedroom. If this is the case, it is not a problem. The workers will skip this room and focus on the other areas in your home. You can set up a schedule with the company to have them come every week, every other week or once a month. If you are hosting a special celebration or gathering at your home and you would like it cleaned on a different day or an additional day, just let the company know. These companies are willing to work around the customers' schedules and their goal is to make the customer happy.

Do some research to learn more about maid services. This will give you more time to spend on other things and it will help reduce your level of stress. You can trust a company that is experienced and licensed. They will do a great job in your home or office.

The Difference in House and Office Cleaning

A house cleaning business includes residential customers of various kinds. It includes any type of residential property such as apartments, condominiums and rental property. Both the office and house cleaning services are very good. The obvious difference between the two consist of the fact that houses are cleaned in the daytime hours and offices are cleaned in the evening hours.

Generally, you would need more residential customers compared to commercial accounts to bring in the amount of money each month that just one or two office cleaning accounts could provide you with.

Residential accounts can include ovens, showers, tubs and beds but you would rarely have to clean any of those things with office cleaning accounts. Many residential customers want cleaning done once a week but office cleaning accounts typically require cleaning to be done more often than once a week.

Some small offices require cleaning only once a week but usually 2, 3 or 5 times a week is more common. One office cleaning account may pay one thousand a month or more for your cleaning service. You would need more than one residential customer to equal the kind of money that one office account could bring in for you each month. However, when you are first getting started in the cleaning business, you may find it easier or faster for you to get house cleaning customers than office cleaning accounts.

Residential clients help promote your cleaning business by word of mouth but office managers and property managers are simply to busy running their own business to recommend your cleaning service to other people. Letters of references from office managers and property managers will speak for themselves and can be used to get more business.

It is not easy to get any business started but a cleaning service is much easier to get off the ground. You won't need much money to get it started either. There are great success stories in both the house and office service businesses. Some people start off doing both to be more diversified in what they have to offer. They do go very well together and one customer quite often leads to another. One door opens another in the cleaning business, so consider offering both types of cleaning services when you are first getting started.

You can use the same company name and business license for both house cleaning and office cleaning services or you can specialize in one of them.

Avoiding Damage to Your Rug From Cleaning Solutions

There is nothing is worse when I see someone who has damaged their rug from using an inappropriate cleaning solution. They were just trying to clean their rug and are left with a great big mark or faded area. Usually I can tell just by looking that they have used a chemical that was way too strong or just plain wrong for the job.

I clean rugs for a living, and when I do so, I still take every possible precaution that I don't let the dye bleed or leave the rug with a bad patch from overexposure to any cleaning solutions. Sometimes after using a cleaning chemical the rug looks great but after a few months starts to fall apart.

I still get the odd rug that just can't really be wet safely without ruining the carpet and have to clean it and without getting it too wet. It's not easy and like I said I do this for a living.

So you'll want to make sure you know how to avoid this problem.

Cleaning solutions need to be used properly in order to avoid any harm or damage to your carpet or rug.

So how can you make sure you are using the solutions and chemicals right?

The first step is to know that a solution cannot clean all kinds of carpets or rugs. Rugs and carpets are made of different fibres, and require their own specific solution.

So what worked for your friend or family member won't necessarily work for you because you may not have the exact same rug or carpet. And it could cause damage.

Retailers will try to tell you that their one product can clean everything. This is not true. Be careful with what you buy, because it could be damaging to you rug or carpet.

Try water first. It sounds strange but sometimes water is the best solution to remove or separate stains from carpets or rugs.

It doesn't always work but by pouring water on the affected area and using a towel blot the stain or spill. Don't rub or you could just spread the stain. Also be careful not to use too much water or you can damage the rug.

Another step to avoid any harmful solutions is to purchase Woolsafe approved logos on them to make sure it is safe for wools.

This will make sure that the solution will not harm your rug. You should absolutely still talk to an expert if you have any concerns, but solutions that are Woolsafe approved will be safe for use.

Besides these steps going to a rug cleaner is the probably the best option. If you damage you rug yourself then it might not be fixable.

Removing Peanut Butter Stains on the Carpet

Peanut butter is one of the favorite snacks for people all over the world. It is great when making a sandwich or simply eating it right out of the jar. While it can bring smiles to a lot of kids and adults from all over, it can also bring a frown to homeowners when it gets accidentally spilled on the carpet.

Peanut butter stains can really affect the appearance of the carpet. It can make it very ugly and unsightly which defeats the purpose of having a carpet at home. Not many carpet owners know how to effectively clean up this kind of mess which can be a big problem for anybody. If you have this very problem at home, here is a simple guide that you can use to help you solve this carpet cleaning issue.

• Scoop up the excess peanut butter on the carpet by using a spoon or a blunt knife. Be careful when you do this because you can accidentally spread the peanut butter further on the other areas of the carpet if you are not cautious. This is certainly one thing that you don't want happening.

• After you have cleared the area of all the excess peanut butter on the carpet, get some water and apply a few drops on the affected areas of the carpet. Let the stain soak in the water for a few minutes and then use a clean white cloth to blot it. This will help remove some of the stain but most likely it will not be able to remove the entire stain.

• Next, get the carpet cleaning product or stain remover that you usually use on your carpet. Then, apply some of it onto the stain and let it soak for a couple of minutes.

• Afterwards, get another clean white cloth and place it over the stain. Then, grab some heavy objects such as books and weights and place it on top of the cloth. This will help absorb the stain and transfer it from the carpet and onto the cloth. Leave this overnight and then the following morning remove the heavy objects and the cloth to see that the stain is gone and your carpet is spotless and clean.

• For the last step, you must rinse the area that you just finished cleaning. This is in order to rinse cleaning solution residue from the carpet to avoid it from building up over time. To finish things off, dry the area using clean rags before you can resume using it again.

Three Main Factors to Consider When Contracting a Cleaning Company

Domestic and commercial office cleaning business is lucrative. As a result, there are many cleaning companies that are being established to claim a share of the wide market. Unfortunately, most of these excited operators don't have what it takes to offer quality cleaning services. Even if they have the basics, they are likely to do a shoddy job. To ensure that you only contract the best domestic or commercial cleaning companies, one should consider three main factors.

1. The Staff Composition and Skill Set

If you hire a quack, you should be ready for a slapdash cleaning job, it is that simple. Don't be fooled by the impressive offers and the well crafted and designed proposals. It is easy to detect which company has competent staff by reading through their proposal. Phrases like "some/most/majority of our staff" for having done and trained in one thing or the other, are vague and suspicious, and shouldn't be believed. If indeed the cleaners are college graduates, there is no harm in having their resumes and copies of their credentials in a file for client's scrutiny.

Some smart entrepreneurs hire a few professionals and showcase them as samples to the clients, and fill up the rest of the positions with quacks. You obviously don't want to believe someone was trained in the use of ladders only for the fellow drop off the fifth floor like a stone. Closely related to this is the level of experience, how long has each of the staff been in the industry? What of the business? Consider a more experienced company as they likely know what to do and when to do it and how to deliver the best quality services.

2. The Cleaning Company's Location

There are spaces that have to be cleaned frequently, at times on a short notice. Say you have an emergency board meeting on a weekend. You will need the board room cleaned immediately. This can only be possible if the cleaning company is located nearby. Knowing where the company is located, especially the address is also important as it makes tracking of cleaners who might be tempted to take off with personal or office equipment easy.

3. Licensing and Insurance

Many people and business in urgent need to contract some services fail to review whether the cleaning companies are registered and insured. Unregistered companies risk being shut down by the authorities any time. This means that they are incompetent and unfit to handle the job. In the same breath, are the cleaners insured against on-duty risks? You don't want to be held responsible for any eventualities at work. Take your time and review these details to stay out of trouble.

Considering the three factors before contracting any cleaning company guarantees one of quality cleaning services and value for money

Commercial Carpet Cleaning - How the Pros Do It

In the carpet cleaning industry, there is a lot of fights amongst the companies. All of them are trying to be the first in the branch, which adequately provides a high competition. Sometimes the work of the carpet cleaners can involve a lot of difficulties. As any commercial cleaning employees that have to be available in the day, sometimes they are required to take night shifts and even work in the weekends. However, none of these professionals can survive in the cleaning industry without a handful amount of cleaning techniques.

Here, in this article I can present you some of them, such as carpet steam cleaning, shampoo cleaning, quick dry carpet cleaning and spot cleaning.

Carpet steam cleaning

This method is widely used nowadays. It involves setting up of a steam cleaning machine that uses vacuum and cleaning solution. It looks like a bigger vacuum cleaner, but its technology is kinda different. It releases cleaning solution and steam deep into the surface of the carpet. However, one of its disadvantages is that it leaves the carpet moisten, no matter the dry pass of the area with the wand. This particular method is good for offices and also areas with tight spaces. The carpet has to dry for a few days after the procedure.

Carpet shampoo Cleaning

Again a machine is involved in this method, as the carpet steam cleaning. However, the machine is called floor buffer, also known as rotary floor machine. To successfully use this machine, mix carpet shampoo using the manufacturer's manual. You can also make a pre-treatment with a vacuum cleaner, so any solid debris and dirt can be cleaned. This will ease the machine's cleaning efforts. You should note that this cleaner should be moved in circular motion, when the shampoo is released and back-and-forth, when you are proceeding to the next area. This method is good when it comes to heavy polluted areas, like a traffic path or building entries.

Spot cleaning

This is not a type of cleaning actually, but more like a good preparation. The spot cleaning involves a handful amount of different chemical cleaners on hand. It is a must for every professional to have rust, gum and, of course, all-purpose spot removers. You never know what type of pollution you are going to face, so better be prepared, especially if you are claiming to provide good carpet cleaning service.

Dry carpet cleaning

This method is very similar to the shampoo cleaning. It actually uses the same machine, but it just requires different set of attachments and tools. The dry carpet cleaning is especially useful when it comes to quick and complete cleaning of any commercial area. It is widely used in busy places and by hotels, as they need fast and efficient cleaning to keep up with their work. The actual procedure involves an attachment called bonnet pad. It looks like a flat and round mop and it does the cleaning. A cleaning solution is also used and it is poured into the cleaning machine. However, a pre-treatment should be performed in order to increase the cleaning results. This tip goes not only for carpet cleaning, but many other cleaning tasks.

Organize Your Mail Clutter

It is important to be in control of our paperwork; we don't always have control over what we receive in the form of paperwork and most of that tends to come from our mail. What we do have control over is how we deal with this source of clutter. With that in mind, let's look at a good way to deal with our mail.

Most people receive mail six days a week, this may depend on your specific location. Sometimes there are days when all that you receive is "junk" mail - mail that serves no purpose other than trying to sell you something or get you to donate money or some other distracting topic. We are all in the habit of getting our mail daily since that is the usual delivery schedule - but does that mean we have to let it occupy our space and time every day? No!

A good way to deal with the clutter that the mail becomes is to designate an in-box of some sort that you can place near the main entrance to your home. We are going to use this to put our mail in as soon as we come in the door. This way the mail does not end up on the dining table, a kitchen counter, or spread throughout the house. Use whatever you wish, a Tupperware container, a cardboard box, a magazine rack. Tuck it under a table, on top of a shoe rack - whatever works for you and gets you to use it regularly.

Now that we have a collection area for the mail, designate set times to go through the mail and weed out the clutter causing portions. Most people do not need to review their mail everyday. Most of us can get away with once or twice a week. Set up a schedule that you want to follow and start right away. When the time comes to review your mail in the in-box, go through it all and sort it completely:

Put ads and junk mail in the recycling or garbageFile or scan and digitize bills and important paperwork in the correct locations, get rid of the envelopes.

Take the time to read any personal letters and correspondence, again, get rid of envelopes and only keep the cards that you intend to display - boxes of cards that you never look at aren't going to bring you much happiness if you never see them!

Now that you have a plan and a schedule, enjoy! You have freed up some of your valuable time and will not have to keep track of paperwork that is cluttering up your home.

Purchasing Hand Wipes

Hand wipes have become a necessary product for many people, and often you will find individuals carrying them in their purse or pocket. However, despite the fact that everyone knows regular disinfecting and hand cleaning is good, hand wipes are not always available to everyone when they need them. This is especially true in a public or a work setting. If you are an employer, a manager or operator of a commercial establishment, or someone who otherwise has large numbers of people around or large numbers of guests, buying wipes in bulk may thus be a smart choice.

When you buy hand wipes, you can make them available to your employees, guests or others who you are interacting with. Once they are available, people are obviously more likely to use them regularly- especially if they have come into contact with someone sick or if they are about to eat. The ready-availability of wipes, and the regular hand cleaning that is likely to result, will help keep employees, customers and guests safe, free of germs and (if applicable) productively working for you instead of taking a sick day.

Purchasing Hand Wipes in Bulk

Recent outbreaks of medical problems such as swine flu have underscored the need for wipes to be available in public spaces, so buying hand wipes has become more important than ever before. You will, therefore, want to be informed and make the best with your purchase.

If you need large quantities of hand wipes for commercial or other purposes, it may seem as if purchasing the wipes you need is simple. Like any other products, however, you will want to make sure you get the right item(s) with the right functionality and at the right price.

To do this, the fist thing you will need to decide is what function you want the wipes to serve. Hand wipes can be broadly divided into two categories: hand sanitizing wipes and hand cleaning wipes. If you want to simply remove dirt from hands, then cleaning wipes may be better because they do not necessarily contain alcohol or other sanitizing agents, which can sometimes irritate the skin. Hand cleaning wipes are ideal for when you want to wipe off grease, oil and other dirt on the hands, and may be perfect for a mechanic or in a setting where employees use their hands for grimy tasks on a regular basis.

For those who are looking for more and who want to make sure that the wipes have a sanitizing function, it is very important to make sure that the wipes will actually do the job of disinfecting and killing the bacteria and unwanted organisms that may be on your hands or the hands of your coworkers or employees. You will want to look at the percentage of common germs that the wipes promise to kill in order to make the decision on which hand wipes are most effective.

Finally, when purchasing hand wipes for your business or customers, you will want to make sure you order from a company that offers these items available in larger quantities. There are typically special bulk rates or bulk discounts that make purchasing hand wipes for everyone an affordable proposition, as well as a wise one.

Eliminating Fountain Pen Ink Stains on the Carpet

Keeping a carpet clean and beautiful is more challenging than many people realize. There are many kinds of carpet cleaning problems which can happen on your carpet on a daily basis. From stains, marks, and spills, the homeowner is definitely going to have a hard time in keeping the carpet spic n' span.

One of the tougher carpet cleaning problems that a homeowner can deal with is cleaning fountain pen ink which has spilled all over the carpet. This is tough because it can create a very ugly stain which can really affect the carpet's appearance. It is also very difficult to remove since it can get deep into the carpet fibers and become very stubborn to get rid of.

But cleaning up this kind of mess is thankfully not an impossibility. If you want to learn how to get rid of this carpet cleaning problem, just follow the guide below.

• Remove as much of the fountain pen ink on the carpet by using some paper towels and blotting the spill. Never rub the spilled area as you will just be making things worse. Only blot the stains carefully to avoid complications.

• Next, pour some isopropyl alcohol an a cotton ball or a cloth. Then, use the cotton ball or cloth to once again blot the affected area. This aids in breaking down the ink stain and making it easier to remove using the succeeding steps. Continue blotting until there is no more ink transferring onto the cloth.

• Afterwards, you need to make a cleaning solution which will help remove the stain. For this, you just need to mix a teaspoon of non-bleach laundry detergent with a ¾ liter of water. Just make sure to use the non-bleach laundry detergent as bleach can end up damaging your carpet instead of cleaning it.

• Once you have prepared the cleaning solution, apply it onto the stained area of the carpet and then get a clean white cloth to blot the stain once again. This will help remove the stain from the carpet and onto the cloth's surface. Repeat this step until the entire stain is gone.

• Lastly, rinse the area you just cleaned with some water and then dry it up using a wet/dry vac.

You see, ink from your fountain pen spilled on the carpet doesn't have to be a nightmare for carpet owners. Just use the simple guide above and soon you'll get rid of the ink stain easily.

How to Look After Your Rug at Home

Unfortunately, rugs are not a self-sustaining investment. In order to keep them beautiful and elegant, they require a little work to keep them healthy and vibrant. There are several things for you to consider in order to extend a rug's life for as long as possible.

Maintenance At Home

To begin with, you should rotate your rugs on a set schedule. You'll want to even out the wear, so make sure it is rotated equally, especially if your rug is in a high traffic area where people are walking all the time. Also, too much sunlight on one spot can make the colour fade in one spot on your rug. Heaters and fireplaces can affect it too so ensure you rotate for this reason too.

Next, you'll want to vacuum regularly. Vacuums can help to lift off and extract the lighter dirt and dust that's stuck in your rug. This allows for a cleaner surface for you to enjoy in your home.

If your rug isn't a big thick shag then you should definitely use a power head vacuum in order to get as much dust out as possible. If it is a big shag then a power head will just get tangle in the vacuum

Remember when vacuuming that just because the vacuum went over the carpet doesn't mean that it is properly vacuumed. You should go as slowly as you can, giving the dirt time to be sucked up.

For spots and stains, try pouring a little water over the stain and blot it with a towel before resorting to any chemicals. Some of these chemicals can harm your rug if used incorrectly. This is best done as soon there has been a spill in order to suck up as much of it as possible. If you can leave a dry towel on the spill afterwards and place something heavy on it overnight you can get the best results.

Please be careful as dyes in the rug can bleed! It might be better to take it to be cleaned at this point

Taking Your Rug to the Professionals

Last step, and it is an important one. Make sure it gets the proper cleaning and maintenance it needs from a professional cleaner. Don't just get any old carpet cleaner either, a rug is a whole different kettle of fish compared to wall to wall carpet. Find someone with qualifications to clean rugs.

Professional cleaners can diagnose your rug's problems and work to fix them. They probably have expensive specialised machinery specifically for rug cleaning that allows them to properly clean your rug.

There is no substitute for a professional clean especially because it reduces the risk of damage or harm to your rug. You can be assured that a qualified rug cleaner won't just take it out to the driveway for a quick once over. They will choose the appropriate method for that specific rug, because different types of rugs need different processes.

Without professional cleaning, the life of your rug will be shortened no matter how much home maintenance you put in. Do both of these things though and you can extend the life of your rug by years.

Top 10 Reasons to Always Keep Hand Wipes Handy

Hand wipes: they are probably not something that you would think of in most passing conversations, with exception to maybe an instance where you just got your hands all grimy and require them. While the advent and popularity of hand sanitizing products is becoming more and more commonplace (heck, some grocery stores even offer bottles out front so you can sanitize your shopping cart handles), hand wipes are also an option. Generally, they can serve as better options than just relying upon hand sanitizer. What follows are the top reasons why it makes a good deal of sense to always keep some hand wipes, well, handy during your day to day endeavors.

Top 10 Reasons to Always Keep Hand Wipes Handy

1. Let's face it, it's a dirty world in which we live and that bathroom sink and welcoming bottle of antibacterial soap are not always close enough for comfort.

2. Do you touch money on a daily basis? Did you know that money is the dirtiest thing in the world that you can touch...because so many people are always touching it? With hand wipes, you can clean the green after you tender payment.

3. So you had to use the restroom urgently and this required that you made a stopover at a place that you normally would never frequent. After squatting to ensure that your health is safe in the restroom, you suddenly realize upon trying to wash your hands that there is no soap. And it's hand wipes to rescue once again.

4. Have you ever been on a picnic? Many parks don't feature washrooms these days. A paper towel or napkin can help. But what about getting the grime off your hands and sanitizing them before and after you eat?

5. Do you work out at the gym frequently? Most gym machines are filthy, even if they appear to be clean. Sweaty people working out in them every few minutes assures this metric. But you can easily workout and breathe easy by wiping them down and sanitizing them beforehand.

6. Do you have children running around? Kids are a joy, but they can tend to get rather dirty rather quickly. Some handy hand wipes will eradicate this worry from ever concerning you.

7. The grocery store is our portal to delicious culinary eats. It can also be the gateway to you getting sick. So be certain to wipe down those shopping cart handles and kill any germs on them before touching them with your hands.

8. So you don't use paper money because it is literally filthy. Good call, money is very gross when you really think about how many hands it crosses. But guess what? That debit pin machine at the store sees just as many germ laden fingers touching it, too. So wipe it down real quick before touching it.

9. Made a mess by accident? You will miss those hand wipes when you need them the most.

10. Just want an easy way to sanitize things? Hand wipes are compact and fit in most pockets and cozily into most pocketbooks.

Preserving Care for Lace

Lace has always been a gorgeous way of dressing up gowns. More recently, it has become more popular even in everyday clothing. I especially love it on the Christening gowns from my Boutique store. Lace, which is typically made of cotton, linen, or synthetic fabrics, is beautiful to wear but perhaps calls for a little caution when it comes to cleaning. And rightfully so! Here are some pointers and tips for those who have delicate lace clothing and are now wondering what to do with it.

It is best to hand wash lace. Use cold or room temperature distilled water and mild soap. If there are any buttons or zippers on the garment, zip or fasten them to prevent snagging. Let it soak for about a half hour to loosen dirt and remove other particles. Be gentle with the material by moderately squeezing and avoid scrubbing or wringing. Rinse thoroughly. You may spend a good time simply rinsing. A suggestion here, if there is a lot of lace, is to pull the fabric out on fiberglass screen with the edges taped. The goal is to prevent the weight of the heavy water from straining the delicate lace. Air or dry flat, and re-shaping may be needed.

If ironing is needed, be sure to use a thick-padded ironing board or lay down a thick white towel first. Then use a press cloth between the iron and the lace, which will prevent crushing the detail of the lace and snagging. For steam-pressing, you could set the iron on low and use a damp cloth. Do not use starch.

Yellowing is a common encounter with either heirlooms or lighter fabric in general. If you are desperately in need, something that may work to get the yellowing out of a white garment with lace is soaking in a non-chlorine bleach (BIZ can be found in the detergent isle of almost any grocery store and is recommended for fine washables) and rinse thoroughly. I would recommend reading the cleaning label first. If there is a stain, try sprinkling baking soda on the area, rub softly, let sit for five minutes, and then rinse. Try repeating a few times if the stain stays.

These are also good guidelines to follow with any fine washables and may be used for other gowns or suits of different fabrics. It may seem like a little extra work, but worth taking the care once you have selected a beautiful outfit. Now, lace on!

Leather Spotting

There are special leather liquid spot and stain removers that are safe to use to remove spots and stains when dry cleaning suedes and leathers just as there are spotters for cloth items.

The spotters made for use on cloth are not usually designed to be used on suede and leather as they will have a harmful effect on the leather skins. They will usually result in color loss and hardening of the skins.

The only liquid stain and spot remover chemicals that should ever be allowed to directly contact suedes and leathers are those that are designed specifically for use on suedes and leathers. Any other spotters will usually result in an unnecessary damage claim.

Unlike spotters manufactured for use on cloth items, some leather spotters are made to be used on both leathers and cloth.

This simplifies the spotting procedures in that the same spotting agent can be used for both the leather and the cloth portions of the leather or suede instead of having to use two spotting agents - one for the leather portions and another for the cloth portions.

Prespotting water soluble spots and stains

To loosen and dissolve water-soluble spots and stains such as perspiration, beverages, food, blood and for general soil removal from items before cleaning, it will be necessary to use a specially formulated safe leather product designed to remove waterborne spots and stains.

Ideally, use of a prespotter specifically formulated for use on suede, leather, fur and trimmed cloth items will not remove colors or harden the skins while at the same time being highly effective on the cloth portions of suede, leather and fur items.

Safe leather prespotter

This color safe prespotter should be a liquid product that can be applied to any type of suede, leather, fur with a cloth lining or cloth trim by spraying it on any soiled or stained areas using a handheld trigger sprayer, a pressure tank sprayer, the spotting gun sprayer (without any steam) or with a spray gun.

This prespotter should be most effective on suede, leather, fur and cloth when applied full strength.

When used on cloth only, the prespotter may be mixed with water in a ratio of up to four parts water and one part prespotter.

Brushing the prespotter

The ideal leather prespotter should be formulated so that it may be allowed to dry on the suede or leather before it is cleaned or it may be cleaned while still wet when the leather cleaning system is conditioned with a specially formulated detergent conditioner, which will emulsify the prespotter while it conditions the dry cleaning fluid to prevent color loss or stiffening of the skin. Thus, the suede or leather item that has been spotted with the leather prespotter may be cleaned either wet, immediately after it is prespotted, or after it has dried.

With such products, leather can be cleaned whenever it is convenient for the operator.

However, for heavily soiled items it is good practice to wait at least a half-hour before cleaning. This will allow the chemicals in the leather prespotter time to work to loosen the soil and stains before cleaning.

Since this special leather prespotter allows the suedes or leathers to be cleaned immediately or later in the day, the following day or even several days later, it permits considerable scheduling flexibility in the prespotting portion of the leather cleaning process.

For example, if the prespotter is used at the end of the day, it may not be convenient to clean the leather at that time, but it may be cleaned the next day after it has dried.

So, if the actual leather cleaning is to be done only once or twice a week, the prespotting can be done at any time it is convenient for the operator during the week, as time permits.

However, furs spotted with prespotter should be allowed to air dry thoroughly before cleaning to protect the delicate fur skin from damage.

Making Time To Get Rid Of Clutter

How much time is 15 minutes? I'm willing to bet that most of us would say, "Not much". Would many people say that it is enough time to get rid of clutter? It's less than the typical TV show, even with advertising taken out of it. It's less time than we spend at lunch during a typical day. So, what can we do with 15 minutes? A lot!

What we want to do is take 15 minutes (or whatever left over amount of time you have available) and turn it into a powerful decluttering tool. If you have 30 minutes, 10 minutes, or even only 5 minutes available, using it correctly can lead to huge results in your decluttering efforts.

As I mention again and again, getting started is the first step. Let's take the case of the person that has 5 free minutes. Sitting down and planning out a decluttering schedule probably isn't the right thing to do in this case - for that matter, it really isn't the right thing to do with less than about an hour of time. So, what do we do instead? We start getting rid of clutter! For a 5 minute decluttering job pick one small area and go to work. For example, if you have 5 minutes before heading to work or heading out to run errands, pick a counter or a table top. Clear off all the items that do not permanently belong and sort these out. Throw away the trash, put the mail in the mail box or file folder, and either deal with the extra clutter right away if time permits, or put it in a box to deal with during your next quick decluttering. Voila! You now have a clean surface instead of a cluttered up area.

You can extend this idea to larger areas, or more heavily cluttered areas by using more time. If you have 15 or more minutes, you could tackle a portion of a room. Say you have 20 minutes during lunch, this would be the perfect time to pick up the entryway, sort out any clothes (jackets, hats, etc) that are laying around, get shoes put away, and sweep or vacuum out the area. While you are picking up the clothing, see if there is anything that has been laying around unused - perhaps it is time to get rid of some clothing clutter and make a donation to Goodwill or the Salvation Army.

Just using these small bits of time that we have available can start to make big differences. Even once a week these quick decluttering jobs will make visible changes in your life. Consider what happens when we do this 2,3, or 4 times a week. What was a quick job to clean a counter turns into a clutter free area which then turns into a clutter free home! This is a huge help to ourselves and our life - adding these small decluttering opportunities together can result in large changes. Ready to start?

Grab a small piece of paper or a notecard. Keep it somewhere visible and write down when you do any of these little decluttering jobs. Write down how long it took and what you did. Aim for doing this at least twice per week. Seeing what you have done and the results around you can be a tremendous help. If you want to go the extra mile, take a picture (before and after) as a reminder of what can be accomplished with this spare moments.

Keep up the decluttering!

A House Cleaning Checklist to Consider When Hiring

For those who plan to hire professionals for house cleaning services, it can help to have a solid understanding of what your options are before you even begin considering the options. In many cases, you will need to look around your home with the professional to determine what things you need to have them do and what you do not need done. During this initial meeting, you will learn what tasks can be done and which may be more expensive. You will also learn what the cost of this product will be for your needs.

Look Around Your Home

Before you bring anyone into your home for your house cleaning needs, it is a good idea to walk around the location and to make a list of the numerous tasks that you need to have completed. This process will provide an opportunity for you to gather your thoughts and desires from this service. Here are some things to keep in mind when making this type of checklist.

• Most of the time, the company will handle most light duty tasks for you with a basic service. This includes dusting, cleaning countertops and scrubbing toilets. These are the types of tasks most need done all the time.

• If you are looking for help with organizational steps, this may be something the company offers as well, but it may not be. You will need to talk to the company about how much extra this will cost, too.

• You may need to consider additional tasks that you would like done that may not need to be done every visit. For example, some companies do offer services on a charge per time done. This may include detailed appliance cleaning, windows and carpeting cleaning.

• Look through your home and determine which rooms need regular care. If some do not, it is a good idea for you to put these to the side to keep the costs lower. However, you may be able to get more rooms for less money. Find out from the company how it charges.

• Discuss the overall limitations in the service the company provides. Some companies do not do specific types of tasks. Ask for this information before you invest in that company.

The more you know about your needs for house cleaning, the more prepared you will be when the company does visit for a tour. Know what you want and you may be able to negotiate for additional options as you go. Do not put off calling these professionals, though. Many times, they can provide you with exactly what you need and more for less than you would expect.

Granite and Marble Sealer Products For Your Protection

Granite and marble may seem durable natural stones by themselves. However, any contractor, builder, or DIY enthusiast must know that such stones can slowly deteriorate when it comes in contact with abrasive substances and extreme natural and weather elements. A good dense stone sealer can do the trick in protecting such materials from degradation and such a sealer can be applied directly on the surface or by a penetrating/impregnating sealer.

What does a typical granite and marble sealer do? If the natural stone surface is not treated, oils, water, and other liquids could penetrate the stones' surfaces, thus leaving behind unwanted stains. Most sealers are formulated to protect against spills without darkening the stone's color. The use of an acceptable marble sealer ensures that the surfaces stay beautiful and stains stay out.

Most sealers can be applied on limestone, slate, marble, granite, travertine, terrazzo, flagstone, sandstone, and grout. The advantages of a typical granite and marble sealer are that it is great for interior and exterior use, has low or no odor, its water-based formula is easy to use, it's great for natural stone floors and countertops, its advanced micro-band technology gives durability and strong wear resistance, and it protects against stains.

Some brands pack their sealers in 16-fluid ounce spray bottles (coverage of 6 to 50 square feet) and yearly sealing is recommended for surfaces that are oftentimes used. A sealing application lasts around 3 years for interior surfaces and 1 to 3 years for exterior surfaces.

A penetrating/impregnating granite and marble sealer can also be used. Sealers are meant to prevent staining of the natural stone. Staining happens when liquids and other substances of an oily or greasy nature are absorbed through the stone's natural pores. Most penetrating/impregnating sealers are silicon-based. However, silicon sealers are the first impregnators to lose effectiveness. Manufacturers, though, urge one to reseal often - as often as once a year. The effectiveness of some sealers can last from 10 to 20 years, but they are more expensive up front. These types of sealers save money and time in the long run.

Why is the penetrating/impregnating granite and marble sealer important? Natural stones have an absorption factor, which means that such stones will deteriorate over time - from normal use of tap water in routine cleaning, of which the cleaning compound contains minerals, salts, and chlorines that are all harmful to natural stone. Moreover, spills from food, oil, and beverages can discolor the stones. When applied properly, a good granite and marble sealer will not affect the appearance or texture of the stone. For all smooth and polished surfaces, an impregnator is essential since sealers do not necessarily bond with the surface.

Prevention can save one huge amounts of money in the long run. This is the essence of a good natural stone sealer and its implements. Sealing stone is like changing batteries in the smoke detector. It should be a regular routine to protect the home's hard surfaces. Such materials are indeed beautiful for construction, but they must be properly maintained by a granite and marble sealer to let their beauty last a long time.

Buy Professional Carpet Cleaning Machines With The Right Features

In business, there is no compromise on quality of service and customer satisfaction. To maintain good quality and higher level of customer satisfaction, you need to make sure that you have the right equipment for carpet cleaning. Professional carpet cleaning machines are easily available on retail shops. Also, these machines are available at discounted prices and with additional features. When you are searching for carpet cleaning machines specifically for your business (old or new), you must keep an eye on few features that make some machines better than others. These are general features and can be found in all the machines that are available in the market.

First of all, you need to explore your options and narrow down your search to few manufacturers, because while your business is in running condition, you cannot keep experimenting with different companies. You need to find that one particular brand you can stick to for a long time. While cleaning carpets for your customers, keep a track of features that come in handy most of the times and that are most advantageous. It will help you buy professional carpet cleaning machines in future, as will easily make sure that these features are available in the unit you are purchasing.

First thing you should consider while looking for professional carpet cleaning machines is the power of the motor. The more powerful the motor, the better your cleaning will be. Remember that you will be cleaning thousands of carpets and sometimes you might have to clean the ones that look like a clay court. For dealing with carpets that are way dirtier than normal ones you handle, you will need very thorough cleaning, powerful machine and powerful extraction. At the same time, you need to make sure that you don't take too much time in cleaning such carpets and for that, you need powerful motor.

The length of your hose pipe is another important factor and you might not know, but it can be really cost effective when it comes to businesses. With small hose size, you will need to deploy more workers on the same carpet to work on different areas simultaneously. On the other hand, with a big hose size, only one worker would be enough to cover a large carpet area. Some of the professional carpet cleaning machines have even 15 feet long hose pipes and considering them in your options would be great. Along with the size of hose, get a long cord with your carpet cleaning machine as well.

Finally, keep a close eye on the tank size when you are exploring professional carpet cleaning machines. As mentioned above, you need to do your jobs quicker, so you can pick up more projects in a day and increase the revenue for your business. If the tank size of your machine is smaller, your workers will require refilling them again and again. This can consume a lot of time. At times, it can be annoying for your customers as well. So, consider machines with larger tank size. Finally, stay loyal to your business and never make the mistake of leaving a carpet wet.

How to Clean Grout - Without Wanting to Tear Out the Tiling

Have you ever felt so frustrated while trying unsuccessfully to clean the grout between your tiles, that you just want to tear out the tiling and replace everything? Well, don't be dismayed. You are not alone. Grout cleaning can be really difficult, and may be a big challenge if you are not familiar with the process. Grout enhances the appearance of your tiles with its wide array of complimentary colors, but it is composed of mostly porous material and is a good absorbent for all the detritus like grease, dirt, soap scum, carbonate scaling, cooking oil, and sediments that gets smeared over it with time. That is why it is necessary to coat all grout with a sealant after installation. The sealant will wear off after a couple of years though, and sometimes the grout is not sealed at all. So what is the easiest way to clean that grout? The following must be taken into consideration:

The kind of tiling. Is it comprised of porous material like marble, granite or stone? The kind of deposit on the grout. Acidic or alkaline? The overall physical condition of the grout. Is it gouged in some areas? What equipment is available to do the cleaning? What chemicals may be used to remove the specific type of deposits? What about the sealing?

There are basically two types of tiles - synthetic or man-made tiles like ceramic and natural or organic tiling like granite, slate, etc. Synthetic tiles are impervious to almost all chemicals or cleaning agents that may be used, but natural tiles are porous and will be severely damaged or etched by acidic chemicals.

Generally speaking, kitchen and hallway tile and grout are more prone to be covered with alkaline deposits, and are best cleaned with alkaline (high pH) tile and grout cleaning solutions, while tile and grout in bathrooms usually have deposits which require low pH (acidic) solvents for removal.

Sometimes grout in some areas may be so badly gouged that it may require repair before or after further treatment.

Small areas of tiling and grout may be cleaned with a small, non-metallic brush, but for larger areas, optimal equipment is a turbo tool powered by a truck mounted machine generating pressures of up to 1000 psi, vacuum of up to 14 inches mercury, and temperatures of up to 250 degrees F. In each case, the cleaning solution is applied liberally over the tile and grout, left to react for at least 15 minutes, and then extracted and rinsed off the tile and grout. High temperatures and agitation with a machine or grout brush will assist the cleaning process.

Finally after you have the tile and grout looking sparkling clean again, be sure to insist on sealing it with an appropriate water-based or solvent-based sealant, to protect the grout from re-soiling and making it easy for you to clean, without wanting to tear out the tiling.

A good sealant will remain on the grout for about two professional cleanings. So clean your tile and grout professionally at least once a year to avoid this kind of frustration.

While you might be tempted to do all of this yourself, in the long run, unless you are dealing with a relatively small area, the easiest and most cost-effective thing to do, is to call in a professional.

What's Living In Your Rug?

The best kind of rug owner makes sure that his or her rug is cleaned and maintained. This usually includes taking the rug in to be cleaned by professionals, but some rug owners choose to clean their rugs at home by themselves.

It's suggested that rug owners clean their rugs themselves through vacuuming periodically to keep it in good nick.

However, these repetitive basic cleans, by means of vacuum or maybe a gentle spot treatment chemical, without a professional clean every 6-12 months can leave some pretty nasty things trapped in your rug.

What's living in your rug, you ask.

If you use your home vacuum to clean your rug, you can maintain you it and eliminate sometimes up to 80 to 85% of dirt and dry soil. This is a great improvement and will make it cleaner for longer.

However, unfortunately the remaining percentage of dry soil, dust and dirt is the nastiest stuff because it is heavier or too small and will accumulate over time. And using your vacuum over and over will never pull these out from the deepest fibres of your rug.

Of course, there are those who try to clean their rug themselves by using a pressure hose to blast the rug which will remove a lot of dirt along with most of the rug as well. Please, Please never use this method to clean your rug, it will damage it beyond repair.

Professionals now use of state of the art machines to remove soiling from your rug. You can bet that anyone in the business for long uses more gentle methods to ensure that the rug comes back.

So while vacuuming your rug might make it look a little better in the short term, it may be full of heavy sediments slowly killing it. What's more disturbing is that what in your rug might be slowly killing you!

You'll never quite know exactly what's living in your rug. Fibres in rugs are capable of holding so many different bacteria and mould spores that become trapped.

I'm not saying all this to scare you either; I really just want everyone to know about one of the best things that they can do for the cleanliness in their home. After all remember that the flip side is that if you didn't have a rug then you would be breathing all of the dirt and bacteria.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars has gone into the research of machinery and technology that will work together to remove these living and damaging things from your rug or carpet. Why wouldn't you take advantage of this; it's really the best way to completely clean any carpet.

A clean rug is beneficial to you and everyone who lives in proximity of that rug. It removes dust and dirt from any living space like an air filter for your home.

Maintaining a clean rug is very important so vacuum often. But to get rid of what's living in your rug is to take it to the professionals and get it cleaned regularly.

Wooden Bowl Care

Wooden bowls intended for use around the home are tough and long lasting. Bowls of ceramic or glass remain unchanged right up to the day when they chip or smash. Wood is unlikely to break in normal use, but does feel the effect of time on its surface. Minor damage will initially lessen the bowl's appeal, but the wear and tear of everyday use over time creates a patina that can enhance the item. Each mark is part of its history.

The owner of a new bowl has a decision to make. Some people like the sparkle of a freshly made piece, while others prefer the appearance of a timeworn and cherished antique. The way you care for the bowl depends on this preference. Either protect the bowl from anything that will damage it, or just put the bowl to use and let it develop the patina that will come from constant handling.

The polished surface of a wooden bowl can be dulled by sunlight, moisture and abrasion. So to keep the shine, minimise exposure to these. But if damage does occur, the surface can be refreshed or even re-finished if necessary. If the surface is still in reasonably good condition, a coat of wax polish or oil is enough to revive it.

To restore the original appearance of a damaged bowl, start by cleaning it using mild detergent and water, scrubbing if necessary to remove any dirt, wax or oil residues. Don't soak the bowl for any length of time. Dry it thoroughly.

It is then ready for any repairs that might be needed. To remove scratches or roughness, use fine grit 'wet or dry' abrasive paper, rubbing along the grain to blend in the damaged area. The paper can be used dry, but if it clogs it can be lubricated with a little water. Clean off any residue and dry the surface again.

Small dents in the wood can be sanded away. Larger ones can be steamed out. Moisten the dent with water and apply local heat with an electric iron, taking care not to scorch. The moisture turns to steam and the bruised fibres return to their original shape. Some fine sanding may be needed afterwards to blend in the damaged area. If the fresh wood exposed while sanding has a different colour to the rest, it will soon blend in again.

When the bowl has a smooth, clean and dry surface, it is ready for refinishing. Most are finished either with a drying oil, such as Danish oil or walnut oil, or a non-drying oil such as mineral oil. Non-drying oils leave a matte finish that attracts dust but is easily washed and re-oiled. Drying oils penetrate and harden, leaving a clean, dry surface that does not hold dust and needs less maintenance. Either can be used whatever the original finish, but remove any non-drying oil from the surface before applying drying oil.

If using a drying oil, wipe on a coat and wipe off any surplus after a few minutes. Let the bowl dry for a few hours, then repeat. When the surface does not absorb any more, remove any roughness with a clean, dry kitchen scouring pad or very fine steel wool and apply one more coat. After a few days to dry properly, wax can then be applied to give a softer feel.

Non-drying oil is easy to apply. Just wipe it on and then wipe off any surplus. Repeat any time the surface looks dry. Soft wax can be applied over the oil.

Household Remedies for Removing Black Mold

People often think that black mold only develops in dirty and unhygienic environments, but this is not the case. Black mold can and has been found throughout thousands of households throughout the US - no place is immune from this fungus.

Black mold grows in environments where there is little or no sunlight, no circulating air, and plenty of excess moisture. Places like this can often be found in cupboards, under sinks, in dry walls or around wood work, and cracked or leaking pipes are often the culprits of the excess moisture. Once black mold has found a place like this to grow, it will, and it will continue to spread throughout your home until you get rid of it once and for good.

It is particularly important to act quickly when removing black mold, because it's poisonous; and although it doesn't pose any real serious threat to individuals with a healthy, strong immune system, it can be very serious, and even life-threatening to people with weak immune systems. For example, people who suffer with HIV, people with transplants, or people who need to use immune-suppressant drugs and of course, young children and the elderly are highly at risk too. Due to the risks involved, it's essential to remove the mold as soon possible after detection.

It is always best to consult a professional mold remediation service to deal with removing black mold from around your home, because it is a highly toxic fungus. But, if you are confident, and you take due care and caution during the mold removal process, you can successfully do the job yourself at home without having to spend money on hiring a mold removal professional.

If you do want to try removing the black mold yourself, then you can do it with a few items that are often found in most households. One of the best ways to clean black mold from your home is to use chlorine bleach - something that most people will have under the kitchen sink (hopefully there is no mold under there too). To perform the removal with chlorine bleach, follow these simple steps.

Firstly you need to ensure you have a protective mask to stop you inhaling any spores that may rise during the removal, and a pair of protective gloves to protect your hands from the chemical cleaner that you will be using. Secondly, you need to dampen the mold on the affected area, this will prevent many of the spores from rising up as you scrub the area clean (if the mold is dry when you start scrubbing, it flakes away much like dust and disperses into the air, by making it damp before you start, you eliminate this extra dispersion of the spores), then use soap and a hard brush to scrub the area clear of black mold. Once the entire mold growth is removed, wash the area clean with water, and then finally give it a thorough clean and disinfect the area with your chlorine bleach solution.

Once cleaned, make sure you fully dry the area and then leave the room to air out for a few hours. If all went well, removing the black mold was a success and you now have a mold free household once again.

Getting Rid of Nail Polish Stains on Your Carpet

Nail polish can really enhance a woman's fingers and toes. It can be a great accent to a beautiful dress or simply something that you can have fun with and customize according to your mood. But while it can have a very good impact on your appearance, it can also be a cause for concern if you accidentally spill some of that nail polish on your carpet.

Nail polish spills are very hard to clean up. They can really alter the carpet's appearance which is why knowing how to properly clean it up is vital. If you are dealing with this problem at home then you are in luck. Below is an effective guide which I have used in cleaning up the polish stains on the carpet. Just follow it so that you won't have to worry about getting your carpet clean and back to normal anymore.

1. Try to remove as much of the polish spilled on the carpet by scooping it using a spoon or a dull knife. If you are just dealing with minor spills though you can simple get a clean paper towel and blot the affected area. It is important that you do not rub the spill as you can only make it worse.

2. Once you have removed the excess liquid, it's now time for you to add a few drops of nail polish remover onto the stain that is left behind on the carpet. Before you do this you must make sure that the polish remover is safe to use on your carpet. To do this, simply add a drop or two on an inconspicuous part of the carpet to see if it does any damage. If there is any discoloration or damage then try using a different carpet cleaning solution, if it does nothing then you are safe to use it.

3. After applying a few drops of the polish remover, blot the area again using a paper towel. By doing this you will be able to remove a little of the stain but you will need to proceed to the next step to completely get it out.

4. Next, mix a teaspoon of non-bleach laundry detergent with ¾ liters of water. Apply this onto the stained area and then blot it repeatedly using a clean white cloth. After a while you will see that the stain is transferring from the carpet and onto the cloth. Do this until the nail polish stain is completely removed.

5. Rinse the area with clean water and dry it up using clean rags. This is so that no residue will get left behind on the carpet.

Dust Matters

Dust is everywhere, literally. In our homes, on the roads, in the market places, the offices, the parks and the parking lots: you name it and you will find it. Nothing is free from dust. Everything is laden with it - the computer, the kitchen ware and home appliances, the furniture and the wall hangings, the decorative pieces and the book shelves. Dust is not a monopoly of the East; it has its niche in the West too, though not as rampant and obvious. Indeed, dust is not limited to our home planet, but is prevalent in our planetary neighbors, comets, meteorites, stellar cousins from outer space and in inter-galactic spaces too as cosmic dust - the starry equivalent of our earthy material. After air, it is the most ubiquitous composite matter on earth, sometimes hardly distinguishable from it.

Dust in residential areas is constantly whipped up by wind and human activity. It rises and settles all the time and while air-borne travels from house to house. It is made up of skin flakes, fabric fibers, flour and food dust from mixers and grinders. It comes from cleaning, sweeping, cooking and, of course, dusting. All this is home-made; there is also dust coming in from the outside such as dust from the street raised by flowing traffic, the blowing winds carrying industrial pollutants, the things purchased from the shops and of course people walking in. Once inside the house, it finds several things to settle on: carpets, furniture, shelves, window sills and the walls and ceilings. Fluffs of dust gather into dust bunnies in little-used corners, under the beds, embedded in seat cushions and pillows, on top of shelves and cupboards and certainly in the attic space.

Coping with dust is not a simple task since we are chasing a moving target. Dusting whips it up and spreads it, exposing ourselves and other things around the place for it to settle down again. Vacuuming is a limited, effort-driven, energy-sapping activity that leaves us drained, even while leaving the unreachable places as dust repositories. Closing the doors and windows and shutting yourself in is not an option either, since it cuts off air flow and the dust that is already in is sure to get to you sooner than you think. One cannot leave them open either, since with the air flow more dust comes in and the bunnies start to appear more frequently and in copious quantities. Floor mopping, carpet cleaning, wiping furniture and keeping kitchen waste from flying are some of the measures we take, in addition to the afore-mentioned activities, but dusting remains a losing battle. Most of our energy is spent in keeping the house dust-free, which is of course an ideal state. It is a myth to expect a place to be completely free from dust, since dust gathers faster than you can clean it, always. And professional dust busting sucks you dry; it cuts your purse strings and leaves you to cope with it again after it is done. With dust, nothing is over.

Nothing is more shocking to watch than sunlight shimmering through a crack in the door or a window pane: it is a revelation to know that the tiny insect-like particles dancing in its path are the dust that we are breathing right now. You blow at them and watch them with fascination as they scatter and re-group again to continue their dreadful dance. Obviously, they are all over the place. What are these particles? Is there anything in the world that is more vulnerable and tenacious at the same time than these little things that have made our life miserable? We have gained control over nature, mastered the laws of science, invented ways to probe the depths of oceans and outer space, invaded the far corners of the earth and extended our scale of study from the very minute to the mammoth objects in the universe; yet, we have failed to contain this menace from these tiny particles that have a tyrannical hold over us. There is no conquering them; there is no getting rid of them; there is indeed no living without them, no matter what havoc they unleash on us.

Dust particles are waste matter. As we chuck our fluid waste into the sea, so we let loose our solid waste matter into the air. Nothing ever goes away for good; no matter where we throw it, it comes back to us. Ash, burnt tire rubber, dandruff, kitchen waste, decaying matter (leaves and flowers), soiled shoes, broken cobwebs, abrasions from skin (human and animal), rock (erosion) and metals (rust), industrial waste as air-borne pollutants, human and animal hair, textile and paper fibers, minerals from the soil and a host of other materials that are typical to a particular surroundings. So we see that dust is composed of organic matter as much as chemicals and other natural stuff that has been thrown away as waste.

This floating waste dump is a mobile breeding ground for germs and a hanger for harmful chemicals which pose a perpetual health risk to us. Not only the industrial environs, but even household dust contains hazardous chemicals, as reported by some pollution and health study groups around the world. No wonder, then, illnesses like asthma, allergic reactions, hay fever and endemic flues dog our lives in no small measure. Dust, the all-pervading ever-present dust, is not only teeming with life, but also with life-threatening stuff.

There are two ways to deal with this fluffy material universe we live in:

• Go at it with a missionary zeal, eradicate it from your life by preparing a strategy to minimize, if not eliminate, it from your life and follow it up scrupulously.

• Take it easy. Consider it chic to have dust around. Stop dusting your bookshelves. Let it accumulate on your possessions - it adds a protective coat of gray matter that shields the surface underneath from scratches. As a newspaper columnist put it rather flippantly - "No more need to take up the broom, brush, duster or vacuum cleaner to fight a losing battle. Just welcome it as your boon companion and relax!"

Summer Carpet Cleaning Tips

Summertime is here which means the house will be opened up to more foot traffic. This will contribute to the amount of dirt and grime getting tracked into the house from outside that will settle into the carpets. Also, increased foot traffic will cause more wear on a carpet regardless of the amount of dirt that is tracked inside. However, there are some simple tips to follow to try to minimize the damage to your carpets throughout the summer months.

The most basic tip to follow to keep carpets clean is removing shoes before walking into the house. Shoes are the most common source for tracked in dirt and mud and they can also wear down a carpet the way excessive foot traffic can wear down patches of grass. Removing shoes before coming inside every time can get obnoxious, but it will help keep carpets clean and extend their lifespan. With all the in and out traffic that a home experiences in the summer, enforcing a "no shoes" household can be rather difficult. Fortunately there are other ways to protect a carpet without having to strictly enforce a "no shoes" rule.

Putting down mats and runners over high traffic areas is another way to protect your carpets. Putting doormats at every entrance of the house helps protect a carpet by encouraging guests to remove their shoes. The presence of a doormat not only acts as a reminder to take your shoes off, but also allows guests to at least wipe them on the mat before entering the house. Runners can act as carpet protectors as well. They can be placed right over the carpet to protect it from the effects of moisture and high foot traffic by providing a buffer between feet and the carpet. Putting runners over carpets in food areas is also a good idea to help protect the carpet from food stains.

While protecting the carpet can help avoid some dirt and stains, enough of the carpet will still be exposed to collect dirt and debris. If the dirt is not removed, it can quickly wear a carpet down and get mashed into the fibers. Vacuuming regularly is the best way to remove dirt and dust before it gets mashed deeper into the fibers where it is more difficult to be cleaned. Another helpful vacuuming tip is to spread some baking soda over the carpet before vacuuming. Baking soda absorbs the odors from the carpet and can easily be vacuumed. It is easy to overlook the importance of vacuuming but vacuuming once a week can help keep carpets cleaner and in turn, extend the life of the carpet.

Following these simple tips can help maintain the life of your carpet through the busy summer season. While performing these simple actions can help keep carpets clean, it is also a good idea to have them cleaned annually by a carpet cleaning company to ensure the cleanliness and longevity of the carpet. Do not let the condition of your carpet take away from the beauty of your home's interior.
